That green thing
on

If it isn't one thing it's another. If it isn't 35th anniversary hoopla it's Green Day. The hits just keep on coming.

Speaking of the 35th anniversary, plenty of attention was given in last week's anniversary issue to strolling through the years with Isthmus. The staff did an outstanding job of putting together the retrospective, and in doing so produced a memorable document. I have received many compliments on it and can only credit the whole staff -- writers and salespeople and Guide compilers and production artists -- for an amazing job.

But now it's on to other things, the immediate one being Green Day, our annual eco-oriented exposition at Monona Terrace happening this Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You'll find we set you up for it very nicely with this issue and the attendant program.

Features editor Linda Falkenstein has the issue cover with her portraits of DYIers you might know, regular folks who've taken it upon themselves to save a tiny bit of the planet's resources. That, in a nutshell, is the purpose of Green Day, and we're happy to present you with some exemplars of that ethic.

In the accompanying Green Day program, you'll find the schedule for Saturday's activities, a layout of the exhibition space and capsules describing the nearly 100 exhibitors. Falkenstein contributes a portrait of the tandem speakers who are the featured attraction on the Green Day stage, the Fabulous Beekman Boys, a.k.a. Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge. These are a couple of city dudes (though one is a Badger) who moved to the farm. Marketable adventures ensue, and you'll hear all about them at 11:30 a.m.

There's plenty more going on, and it's all catalogued in the program. The weather's not supposed to be very nice on Saturday, so spend some time indoors with us at Monona Terrace. Spring is here, off and on, but we're going to nail it down this weekend. See you at the place by the lake.
