Sunspot: Deus Ex Machina

Sunspot is the Madison party-rock band that relentlessly tours Wisconsin and captures the energy of its travels in the zany podcast Sunspot Road Mania. But on its new three-song EP, Sunspot ventures way beyond party rock. Deus Ex Machina takes on lyrical themes both deep and dark, and it adds rock riffs rough enough to match the mood.

The grungiest, growliest riffs are reserved for the title track, a five-minute anthem to the addiction of living life online. "Collect me, protect me, just please don't disconnect me," sings lead vocalist Mike Huberty. "We will live forever, zeroes and ones."

"The Price" embraces the bittersweet reality that love and death are inseparable. With a rising, rousing chorus, it's a fate the song sublimely accepts.
