Live-blogging the Valentine's Day anniversary rallies at the Wisconsin Capitol
on

February 14 earned an enduring place in Wisconsin history last year, when the weeks-long series of demonstrations both inside and around the state Capitol commenced as a mass movement with UW-Madison students marching to Governor Scott Walker's office to deliver boxes upon boxes of Valentine's Day cards. The Teaching Assistants' Association is once again celebrating the holiday with a special delivery and protest under the Rotunda. Follow live tweets, aggregated reports, and discussion throughout the day and evening here.

Activists and organizations that participated in last year's unprecedented demonstrations and occupation of the Wisconsin Capitol are marking the anniversary of their opening with a week of action titled "One Year Longer, One Year Stronger" -- a series of rallies, panel discussions, benefits, book readings, and other events held to both commemorate and extend the legacy of the protests.

This first major protest of this anniversary week was held on Saturday, February 11, a day labeled by organizers as "Wisconsin Day" to mark the date when the governor formally announced his agenda for the state's public employees. Read a live-blog and report about this rally.

Public protest is once again a focus for Valentine's, starting with today's midday gathering led by UW students, and continuing into the evening with another demonstration. This rally -- titled "Show the Love, Save Our Schools!" -- is organized by Madison Teachers Inc. on behalf of its members turned out en masse over the rest of that first week of demonstrations.

For more details about the inaugural demonstration on Valentine's Day last year, read a live-blog and view photos and video on the scene.
