The scene at the Madison City-County Building on Friday afternoon, the last day to cast early ballots in the recall election.
A line of about 80 people waiting to vote wound its way around the lobby in the City-County Building in downtown Madison Friday afternoon. It's the last day to vote in-person absentee for the June 5 recall election and the Madison City Clerk's office will be open until 7 p.m.
People said they waited about 30 minutes to vote. The line looked daunting, but it moved fairly quickly, they said.
The Government Accountability Board said in a news release that 182,228 absentee ballots had been issued by local election clerks who track such data; all of the state's large cities do. In the 2010 gubernatorial election, 230,744 absentee ballots were cast out of a total 2,160,832 votes.
Mailed absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received by the clerk's office by 4 p.m. the Friday after the election.
