UP: Gary Wistrom. A jury awards Wistrom, a former veterans affairs administrator, $1.8 million in his lawsuit against Ken Black, the former Department of Veterans Affairs secretary. Wistrom was reassigned 110 miles from his home after sticking up for a colleague, Randall Nitschke, who was fired in 2010. Wistrom testified that Black had said the agency needed to get rid of old white guys shortly before Nitschke was fired. Nitschke settled his lawsuit against the state for $180,000.
DOWN: Madison-Kipp Corp. The state Department of Justice sues the company for allegedly releasing tetrachloroethene, a degreasing agent, into the air and soil from the late 1940s until 1987, contaminating soil and groundwater on the company's property at 201 Waubesa St. The company's vice president, Mark Meunier, denies any wrongdoing.
