Mining fight not a lost cause
on

I was thrilled to see the upcoming mining issue represented on the front page of Isthmus ("To Mine or Not to Mine," 12/14/2012). However, the article seemed defeatist, like the battle was already lost. There are plenty of Wisconsinites fighting to preserve clean water throughout the state. As residents of Wisconsin, we need to think ahead generations to decide what kind of state we want to leave for our children's children's children, and think critically about who will benefit from destroying forever the unique Penokee Range and the Bad River's sloughs full of pure water and wild rice.

If the moratorium is lifted, Wisconsin risks irreversible damage to our landscape and our health. I encourage readers to get involved in the struggle to secure a future for Wisconsin that includes local, clean water.
