B-cycle up; Wisconsinites down

UP: B-cycle. The bike-sharing service, started in 2011, reports that rides and membership numbers more than tripled in 2012. The largest growth was among people registering with a UW email address. The company - operated by Trek - sold 2,150 annual memberships. Customers rode the bikes 94,000 miles on 63,325 trips.

DOWN: Wisconsinites. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reports that unemployment increased for most of the state's metro areas, cities and counties from October to November. But the silver lining is that the rate has likely risen because people who had previously given up on finding a job are once again looking for work, as the economy slowly improves.
