Developers up; Madison school board down

UP: Developers. The Common Council approves the Waterfront, a 71-unit apartment building in the Langdon Street National Register Historic District, over the objections of city planning staff and the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation. Three buildings that contribute to the district's historic nature will be razed for the project. The project also conflicts with the recently approved downtown plan.

DOWN: Madison school board. The school board proudly announces two finalists, Jennifer Cheatham and Walter Milton Jr., for superintendent on Sunday. But just two days later, Milton withdraws after local media scrutinize his checkered work history. Somebody needs to tell the Madison board about this thing called "Google."
