A worker at a pornographic film lab evolves into a cold-blooded hit man in The Iceman, a steamy, dark crime thriller. Though he's a devoted family man, his family has no idea what his professional life is like.
Despite all the violence, this true story of hired killer Richard Kuklinski (Michael Shannon) is beautiful to look at. In fact, nearly everything in The Iceman is high quality, particularly the acting by Shannon and Winona Ryder, who plays his wife.
The cast has so many men with facial hair that it's hard to tell them apart. But there's an even hairier problem: The film covers almost nothing new. Is it any surprise that life doesn't work out too well for a professional murderer?
It's clear than an enormous amount of effort was put into The Iceman, but in the end, this story just seems like noise, wind and dust.
