The best of hosts

Airbnb is a phenomenon of the modern age, one of those recent, web-based innovations that are changing the culture. Catherine Capellaro's article "A Bed & Breakfast on Every Block?" describes one of the charms of the movement as the traditional concept of hosting.

Isthmus will be doing some of that when we host season two of the Isthmus Food & Wine Festival on Oct. 18 and 19 at the Alliant Energy Center Exhibition Hall. We are planning for a robust expansion after last year's successful inaugural event, under the cheerful motto "Eat, Drink and Be Madison."

The planning and preparation are still going on -- it is, after all, still two and a half months away. More information will be coming your way in the interim. But hey, the cake is in the oven, and ticket sales have launched on the website Tickets will become available through other venues soon.

The event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday the 18th and continue on Saturday the 19th from 2 to 6 p.m. Advance ticket prices are $40 for one day, either Friday or Saturday, or $65 for a two-day pass. On the first day of the event, ticket prices at the door will be $55 for one day or $80 for two.

Why buy a two-day pass? Because a lot is going on. There will be a lot of demonstrations, and none will be repeated. There will be lots to sample and a lot of exhibitors to talk to. There will be three stages for presentations. There's a lot more detail than I'm passing on here.

To see a list of exhibitors who have already committed, purchase tickets and get updates on the event, visit the website. We're planning to be good hosts and make sure you have the opportunity to get your money's, and your mouth's, worth. We'll be glad you did.
