The UW-Madison Lakeshore Nature Preserve's new interactive online map is a must-bookmark resource for anyone with the slightest interest in the 300-acre refuge, which extends from Muir Woods west along Lake Mendota's south shore past Picnic and Frautschi points to Eagle Heights Woods. Those with the slightest interest will include area residents, hikers, nature and history enthusiasts, geographers, birdwatchers, the curious, those in search of solitude and almost anyone else who appreciates a lungful of fresh air.

Introduced Nov. 19 with the launch of the new online portal to the Lakeshore Nature Preserve, the interactive map is loaded with tools and features to suit a broad spectrum of interests.

Forthwith, an introductory tutorial, available in the photo gallery at top right.

And be sure to use the interactive online map to explore the Lakeshore Nature Preserve itself. It's one thing to see the refuge represented on your computer screen, quite another to layer it with your interests, print it out and take it along to enrich your experience on the ground.
