James Tye up and Marquette & Lapham down

UP: James Tye. The 35-year-old account executive for the Capital Region Business Journal chased a man he found robbing his home. Tye chased the alleged burglar, 45-year-old Jemille Smith, for 10 minutes through an east-side neighborhood, running through backyards and scaling fences. When Smith paused for breath at North Few and East Johnson streets, Tye was able to attract the attention of a nearby police officer, who arrested Smith.

DOWN: Marquette & Lapham. Over the objections of parents, the Madison school board votes 4-3 to consolidate the two east-side schools. Students at Marquette will move to Lapham, while students from the Affiliated Alternative program, for kids who have trouble in traditional settings, will move to Marquette. The consolidation will save the school district $522,000. The board had to cut about $8 million from its $339 million budget.
