Do you ever walk into a convenience store and wish for more than doughnuts, microwaveable burritos and rolling hot dogs that have been there since prehistoric times? Then look no further than the newly opened MoCo Market, a modern spin on the same-old, same-old convenience store.

As you walk into MoCo's clean, minimalist setting, you'll be awestruck at the variety of products: groceries ranging from organic spaghetti sauce to Special K to glass-bottle Coke; prepared foods like a build-your-own parfait bar and sushi; international wines and rare microwbrews; upscale lotions and body wash; CDs, sunglasses, trendy magazines. You know right away that this ain't your mama's convenience store.

Owner Megan Ramey, a soon-to-be graduate of UW-Madison's MBA program with a background in fashion-trend forecasting, says her "modern version of a gas station" appeals to environmentally minded urban dwellers who prefer alternative commuting and run the gamut from tech-geeks to microbrew heads to fashionistas, and so on.

Ramey says she opened MoCo because "I didn't want to work for a big corporate machine. And I wanted to do nice things for the environment."

And she certainly is doing that. Ramey trains each of her employees on minimal environmental impact, recycles everything (even the tables are made of recycled wood doors) and sources things as locally as possible to minimize gas consumption. So even if things out there on Planet Earth seem a little bleak these days, the environment is looking beautiful inside MoCo Market.

Do your part to save the planet with these modern products: Design Stockholm bike basket ($59); Alba Papaya Mango Exfoliating Facial Wash ($9); "Frushi" fruit sushi ($5).
