Blue Thunder
Released: 1983
Rated:
Now Playing? No
A typical '80's action picture: lots of technology and logistics, and an empty, slightly pathological core. It's about high-tech helicopter cops in some futuristic L.A. (not as interesting as Blade Runner's), one of whom runs amuck, justifiably.
Blue Valentine
Released: 2010
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Michelle Williams (perfectly pitched) and Ryan Gosling (overdoing it) play a pair of passionate lovers who become a weary married couple raising a five-year-old on a tight budget. There’s so much to admire in this marriage-in-crisis miniature that it’s that much more frustrating when it falls short of its promise. (K.J.)
Blue Velvet
Released: 1986
Rated: R

A young man meets a debased group of people in David Lynch's 1986 freakout.

Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice
Released: 1969
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Paul Mazursky's affectionate but troubled look at sex and swingers in the land of '60's surf and sunshine. A very sharp look at California mores, with a hilarious duet between Gould and Cannon on the theme of horniness vs frigidity.
Bob le Flambeur

Bobby

Emilio Estevez's film focuses on 22 people (Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Fishburne, Lindsay Lohan et al.) who happened to be in the hotel where Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1968. Estevez attempts to explore major issues like Vietnam, racism and poverty but trips over his own feet.

Body Heat
Released: 1981
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Lawrence Kasdan's superheated update of Double Indemnity: Doomed lovers copulate, kill and double-cross, while all around them restaurants explode, buildings burn and the Miami sun beats down mercilessly. Very clever, very calculating; a derivative show, but a good one.
Body of Lies
Released: 2008
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe star in this Middle East-based political thriller about a CIA operative who’s trying to flush out a terrorist cell and a Langley desk jockey who calls all the shots from thousands of miles away. There’s an important message in there somewhere about Western surveillance technology being no match for jihadi fervor, but that’s largely lost in a movie that would much rather entertain than inform, if you want to call it entertainment. (K.W.)
Body of War
Released: 2007
Rated: NR
Now Playing? No
This antiwar documentary is an up-close-and-personal look at an impetuous kid who volunteered for the military and wound up paralyzed for life. The documentary takes us through his conversion from gung-ho recruit to disgruntled vet, but it also draws parallels between his broken body and a body politic that was just was eager to go to war as he was. (K.W.)
