Blue Thunder
Released: 1983
Rated:
Now Playing? No
A typical '80's action picture: lots of technology and logistics, and an empty, slightly pathological core. It's about high-tech helicopter cops in some futuristic L.A. (not as interesting as Blade Runner's), one of whom runs amuck, justifiably.
Blue Valentine
Released: 2010
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Michelle Williams (perfectly pitched) and Ryan Gosling (overdoing it) play a pair of passionate lovers who become a weary married couple raising a five-year-old on a tight budget. There’s so much to admire in this marriage-in-crisis miniature that it’s that much more frustrating when it falls short of its promise. (K.J.)

Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice
Released: 1969
Rated:

Paul Mazursky's affectionate but troubled look at sex and swingers in the land of '60's surf and sunshine. A very sharp look at California mores, with a hilarious duet between Gould and Cannon on the theme of horniness vs frigidity.

Body Heat
Released: 1981

Lawrence Kasdan's superheated update of Double Indemnity: Doomed lovers copulate, kill and double-cross, while all around them restaurants explode, buildings burn and the Miami sun beats down mercilessly. Very clever, very calculating; a derivative show, but a good one.
Body of Lies
Released: 2008
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe star in this Middle East-based political thriller about a CIA operative who’s trying to flush out a terrorist cell and a Langley desk jockey who calls all the shots from thousands of miles away. There’s an important message in there somewhere about Western surveillance technology being no match for jihadi fervor, but that’s largely lost in a movie that would much rather entertain than inform, if you want to call it entertainment.
