MovieDescription
Bride Of The Monster
Released: 1956
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Another crack-brained horror epic and some aficionados regard it as one of the standouts - from the crack-brained filmography of Ed Wood, Jr., reportedly the only Marine who wore pantyhose during the invasion of Iwo Jima, and the director responsible for such dubious cinematic legends as Glen Or Glenda and Plan 9 From Outer Space. Forewarned is forearmed. (M.W.)

Bride Wars
Released: 2009
Rated: PG
Now Playing? No
A scheduling snafu puts Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway's weddings on the same day, and the situation escalates from awkward fumbling to all-out guerrilla tactics. I'd be hard-pressed to name another recent film so deeply noxious, soul-sick, and unfunny. (K.J.)
Brideshead Revisited
Released: 2008
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
In this accomplished adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's 1945 novel, a low-born aspiring painter, new to Oxford, becomes the pet of a young lord. This distinctly secular take on Waugh's religiosity is interested in the battle of blind faith versus rigid unbelief and its devastating effects. (K.J.)
Bridesmaids
Released: 2011
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Disaster follows when a hapless, downwardly mobile woman (Kristen Wiig) agrees to be maid of honor for her best friend (Maya Rudolph). This comedy from Judd Apatow's factory attempts to expand the bromance genre to women, with mixed results. (K.B.)

Rated: NR

Bridge to Terabithia
Released: 2007
Rated: PG

In this remarkable family film, fifth-grade friends discover a magical kingdom in the forest. The filmmakers don't condescend to their audience, understanding that the complications of grade-school life are serious business to the people experiencing them. (M.I.)

Bright Eyes

Dimpled tot shakes her curls at trouble and dances jigs at catastrophe. This one includes Shirley's deathless rendition of "On the Good Ship Lollipop" - a song which noted film scholar and Temple worshipper Joseph McBride played on arising every morning for two years.
Bright Future

Rated: PG

Jane Campion dramatizes the love life of Romantic poet John Keats (Ben Whishaw), who, between writing and worrying about book sales, falls in love with the seamstress next door (Abbie Cornish). Gorgeously lyrical sequences lift this above mere costume drama. (K.B.)
Bright Victory
Released: 1951
Rated:

A blind vet and his painful civilian adjustment. One of the better of the early '50's liberal "problem" pictures, with a gutty, harrowing performance by Arthur Kennedy.

On the day before his wedding, Huxley meets Mrs. Random's high-spirited young niece, Susan Vance (Katharine Hepburn), a madcap adventuress who immediately falls for the straitlaced scientist. The ever-growing chaos -- including a missing dinosaur bone and a pet leopard -- threatens to swallow him whole. (TMS)

Britannia Hospital
Released: 1983
Rated:
Now Playing? No
The third in the trilogy that director Lindsay Anderson, writer David Sherwin and actor Malcolm McDowell began in if...and continued through O Lucky Man!, and it's the most savage, wild and brilliant of the three. This time, McDowell's Travis is an impertinent TV news cameraman who, in the course of an all but indescribable day at a British hospital, is beheaded twice by a mad scientist. Intricate, ceaselessly imaginative and corrosively funny, this is a very underrated film - probably Anderson's masterpiece.

Pleasant followup to the 1929 "Melody" - one of history's more undeserving Oscar winners. Several of the original Fred Brown songs here later popped up in "Singing In The Rain."
Broadway Melody Of 1938

A lesser entry in this up-and-down series, although it does contain young Judy's heartfelt plaint to an absent Clark Gable, "You made me love you, I didn't want to do it. " (Off screen , it is whispered, they did...)
