May-December romance between L.A. businessman and flower child. (M.W.)
Brewster McCloud
Released: 1970

The theft of Dorothy's ruby slippers, assorted weirdo's in Houston, and the boy who wants to fly in the Astrodome. The strangest movie Robert Altman ever made (possibly excepting Quintet); only the worldwide success of M*A*S*H* the year before and the general air of big-money cinematic anarchy in the late '60's let him get away with it. But it's full of charm, humor and surprises - and it's probably no crazier than the real Houston.

Brick Lane
Released: 2007
Rated: PG-13

Based on Monica Ali's celebrated novel, this is the story of a Bangladeshi village girl (Tannishtha Chatterjee) whose family marries her off to a man twice her age living in London, where she gradually learns that life doesn't have to be a form of indentured servitude. Director Sarah Gavron directs with a lot of sensitivity, but it's Chatterjee who puts the movie over; rarely has reticence seemed so tragically heroic. (K.W.)
Brick Mansions
Released: 2014
Rated: PG-13

An undercover cop (Paul Walker) navigates a dangerous neighborhood with an ex-con's (David Belle) help. Belle's agility is mesmerizing as he performs one parkour stunt after another, but his athletic abilities can't sustain this undercooked remake of the 2004 French film District B13. (S.D.)
Bride & Prejudice
Released: 2004
Rated: PG-13

Bride Flight
Released: 2011
Rated: R

In flashbacks to 1953, we learn how three Dutch women (Karina Smulders, Anna Drijver, Elise Schaap) emigrated to New Zealand, changing all their lives forever. Even at 130 minutes, the film doesn't develop enough nuances of character to make those stories resonate (S.R.)
Bride of Chucky
Released:
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Bride Of The Gorilla
Released: 1951
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Hapless hubby and his jungle spouse are lunged into voodoo antics. Said by some to be luridly enjoyable. (M.W.)
Bride Of The Monster
Released: 1956
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Another crack-brained horror epic and some aficionados regard it as one of the standouts - from the crack-brained filmography of Ed Wood, Jr., reportedly the only Marine who wore pantyhose during the invasion of Iwo Jima, and the director responsible for such dubious cinematic legends as Glen Or Glenda and Plan 9 From Outer Space. Forewarned is forearmed. (M.W.)
Bride of the Wind
Released: 2001
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Bride Wars
Released: 2009
Rated: PG
Now Playing? No
A scheduling snafu puts Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway's weddings on the same day, and the situation escalates from awkward fumbling to all-out guerrilla tactics. I'd be hard-pressed to name another recent film so deeply noxious, soul-sick, and unfunny. (K.J.)
Brideshead Revisited
Released: 2008
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
In this accomplished adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's 1945 novel, a low-born aspiring painter, new to Oxford, becomes the pet of a young lord. This distinctly secular take on Waugh's religiosity is interested in the battle of blind faith versus rigid unbelief and its devastating effects. (K.J.)
Bridesmaids
Released: 2011
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Disaster follows when a hapless, downwardly mobile woman (Kristen Wiig) agrees to be maid of honor for her best friend (Maya Rudolph). This comedy from Judd Apatow's factory attempts to expand the bromance genre to women, with mixed results. (K.B.)
Bridge to Baghdad II
Released: 2003
Rated: NR

Bridge to Terabithia
Released: 2007
Rated: PG

In this remarkable family film, fifth-grade friends discover a magical kingdom in the forest. The filmmakers don't condescend to their audience, understanding that the complications of grade-school life are serious business to the people experiencing them. (M.I.)
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

Bright Eyes

Dimpled tot shakes her curls at trouble and dances jigs at catastrophe. This one includes Shirley's deathless rendition of "On the Good Ship Lollipop" - a song which noted film scholar and Temple worshipper Joseph McBride played on arising every morning for two years.
Bright Future

Bright Leaf

Empire-building in the tobacco industry; a family chronicle in the current "Dallas" - "Dynasty" mode. (M.W.)
Bright Star
Released: 2009
Rated: PG

Jane Campion dramatizes the love life of Romantic poet John Keats (Ben Whishaw), who, between writing and worrying about book sales, falls in love with the seamstress next door (Abbie Cornish). Gorgeously lyrical sequences lift this above mere costume drama. (K.B.)
Bright Victory
Released: 1951
Rated:

A blind vet and his painful civilian adjustment. One of the better of the early '50's liberal "problem" pictures, with a gutty, harrowing performance by Arthur Kennedy.

Rich kids party in England between WWs I and II

Eager to collect, a couple of bounty hunters (Robert Webber, Gig Young) track him to a Mexico City bar run by an American expatriate named Bennie (Warren Oates). Bennie denies knowing Garcia and attempts to bring in the head himself after learning from his girlfriend (Isela Vega) that Garcia has died in a car accident. (TMS)
