In this French dramedy, a grieving widow (Audrey Tautou) starts an affair with a dweebish employee (François Damiens). There are hints of icky sweetness à la Amélie, but Tautou is appealingly tough, and the film makes interesting observations about workplace romance in a changing France. (K.B.)

Steve Buscemi stars as a New York City paparazzo in Tom DiCillo’s caricature of our celebrity-obsessed culture. The film is goofy and cartoonish at the edges, but humble and funny enough to compel viewers to overlook its flaws. (F.F.)

The Cahulawasee River is turbulent and wild. Its waves cut flesh like spears; its rock-strewn rapids tear and ferment and boil in liquid frenzy; it shallows are deceptive pools of tranquility; and all around it towers a deep, dark, apparently primeval forest which seems to enclose in its shadows everything savage, rank, and dangerously wild...James Dickey's novel may be touched with a bit too much of the American"macho" mystique - Dickey appears here, in fact, very convincingly as a redneck Southern sheriff - but this movie of the book is a shocking, unforgettable Gothic vision. John Boorman and photographer Vilmos Szigmond capture the sights, the sounds, the sensations of "white-water canoeing" with breath taking immediacy and violence. "Deliverance" is a gory, awful bloodily poetic experience. It leaves you drained.
Delivery Man
Released: 2013
Rated: PG-13

After discovering he has fathered more than 500 children, a sperm donor (Vince Vaughn) must decide whether to reveal his identity to the progeny trying to track him down. This film is not at all believable, which makes it hard to watch. (M.B.)
Delta Farce

In this joyless redneck comedy, three bumbling Army reservists mistake a Mexican village for Iraq. Brace yourself for gay-baiting drag-queen rape jokes. (M.I.)

A sort of chi-chi spinoff from Woman Of The Year instead of a liberal columnist, the sportswriter marries a fashion designer. But it has pace and style and it's actually one of the best American comedies of the 50's.
