Gunga Din
Released: 1939
Rated:
Now Playing? No
"So, I'll meet 'Im later on/At the place where 'e is gone/Where it's always double drill and no canteen/E'll be squattin' on the coals,/Givin' drink to poor damned souls,/An' I'll get a swig in Hell from Gunga Din." Rudyard Kipling - "Just So" taleteller and coiner of the phrase "white man's burden" - may have been a racist and reactionary and an apologist for imperialism, but he was also one hell of a writer. I can't read "Gunga Din" without getting fiery-eyed and slightly choked up, and this movie version of the poem - though the emphasis is more on rowdy humor and robust adventure - has a similar effect. Great, primally innocent fun.
Gunman's Walk
Released: 1958
Rated:
Now Playing? No
The Western as family tragedy, crisply handled by B-movie master Phil Karlson (Walking Tall, The Brothers Rico).
Gunn
Released: 1967
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Blake Edwards' film version of the suave private-eye TV series that made his early reputation, "Peter Gunn" - minus all the series regulars except Craig Stevens. Badly reviewed at the time, but Edwards' major critical champions esteem it highly.
Gunner Palace

Rated: PG-13

"COPS" meets "Survivor" in this reporting-to-you-live-from-Baghdad documentary
Gunshoe

Walter Mittyish tale of a would-be hard-boiled dick. Off trail, likable. (M.W.)
Guttaperc

Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench

A jazz trumpeter meets a waitress in this daring musical.
Guyana Tragedy, Part I
Released: 1980
Rated:
Now Playing? No
James Jones of Indianapolis and points west stirs up some Kool-Aid. An extravagantly praised and multi awarded docu-dramas. (M.W.)
Guys And Dolls
Released: 1955
Rated: NR
Now Playing? No
The enjoyable 1955 musical culled from Damon Runyon's tales of Broadway lowlife.
Gypsy
Released: 1982
Rated:
Now Playing? No
A brassy, vulgar version of the classic show biz musical - all about Carson McCullers' old roommate Gypsy Rose Lee and how she survived a piranha of a stage mother and all the bumps and grinds of the road to become the ladylike "queen of the strippers." It all comes off better than it should, considering the substitution of Roz Russell for Ethel Merman in the role of the mother. If the studio heads were unwilling to take a stage star like Merman in the part she made legendary. I wish they'd taken a huge leap of faith and gambled on Judy Garland.
Gypsy Caravan
Released: 2006
Rated: NR
Now Playing? No
Jasmine Dellal’s documentary takes us along for the ride on a 2001 concert tour with five groups of gypsy dancers and musicians. In addition to entertaining performances by Esma Redzepova, Antonio el Pipa and Taraf de Haidouks, there’s behind-the-scenes footage that may have you rethinking your notions about these inveterate wanderers.
