MovieDescription
Miracle at St. Anna
Released: 2008
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
An intimate epic, Spike Lee’s World War II film gives history a much-needed rewrite by focusing on four African-American soldiers trapped behind enemy lines in an Italian village. But the movie lacks focus, and Lee seems much more interested in memorializing these men than in understanding them. (K.W.)
Miracle in The Rain
Released: 1956
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Love's course runs far from smoothly in World War 3-era Manhattan. A seemingly incongruous slice of sentiment from the quintessential Hollywood cynic, Ben Hecht, and one of which "soap" aficionados are often especially fond.
Miracle In The Sand ("Three Godfathers")
Released: 1936
Rated:
Now Playing? No
The struggle of three bandits to rescue an abandoned baby in the scorching desert wastes becomes an analogue for the Nativity...The fourth of five versions of this story - originally a 1916 Harry Carey silent - two of which were directed by John Ford, and one by William Wyler. Ford's last version, the 1948 "Three Godfathers," is the most famous and the best of the lot.
Miracle on 34th Street
Released: 1947
Rated: PG
Now Playing? No
The Christmas perennial about all the bizarre, delightful complications which ensue when Macy's inadvertently hires Kris Kringle as one of its Santas.
Mirror Mirror
Released: 2012
Rated: PG
Now Playing? No
This umpteenth update of Snow White holds fast to the tale’s most tiresome aspects: Snow’s (Lily Collins) dull sweetness and the evil Queen's (Julia Roberts) one-track motivation. The filmmaking is fussy and bereft of wit. (K.J.)
Mirrormask
Released: 2005
Rated: PG
Now Playing? No
Mirrors
Released: 2008
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Department store mirrors reflect back wretched images of a night security guard (Kiefer Sutherland), and soon an inexplicable force is attacking his family. Although the special effects look pretty good, the story is ridiculous. (M.B.)
Miss Congeniality

Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
An FBI agent (Sandra Bullock) poses as a beauty pageant contestant to investigate a bomb threat.
Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous

Miss March
Released: 2009
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Adolescent comedy garbage about a high school guy who, after coming out of a coma, goes on a road trip to reclaim his girlfriend, now a Playboy centerfold. The film wallows in degradation in a desperate search for laughs. (J.R.)
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
Released: 2008
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
A no-nonsense London governess (Frances McDormand) bluffs her way into a job as the social secretary for a brain-dead American starlet (Amy Adams). McDormand and Adams have their moments, but this comedy is stagy and lightweight. (M.S.)
Miss Potter
Released: 2006
Rated: PG
Now Playing? No
In this delightful movie, Renee Zellweger plays Beatrix Potter, the author of The Tale of Peter the Rabbit and other children's stories that have continued to enchant us for over 100 years. Although Potter's life wasn't exactly packed with drama, it had its moments, all of them infused with storybook charm by the filmmakers. (K.W.)
Miss Representation
Released: 2011
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
An exploration of women in America shows their underrepresentation in positions of power.
Miss Sadie Thompson
Released: 1955
Rated:
Now Playing? No
More Rainfall, from the ragged edge of Somerset Maugham. (M.W.)
Missing
Released: 1982
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Costa-Gavras (Z, State of Siege) brings his genius for vigorous, pungent, political melodrama to bear on the disappearance of a young American, Charlie Horman, during the overthrow of the Allende regime in Chile. Fast, hair-raising, played with burning conviction by the entire cast, this film is a more-than-convincing indictment of American power politics, of the crushing of the innocent in the vise of history. (M.W.)
Mission to Mars
Released:
Rated: PG
Now Playing? No
The movie is consistently entertaining and sometimes captivating. Who could ask for anything more?
Mission to Moscow
Released: 1943

Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol
Released: 2011
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
In this installment, Tom Cruise’s agent is tasked with penetrating the Kremlin and preventing World War III. The brilliantly constructed film is the best of the franchise thus far, stretching itself in ways that only new director Brad Bird (The Incredibles) might have thought of. (M.S.)

Mississippi
Released: 1935
Rated:

One of those movies where the parts are greater than the sum of the whole: a youthful Harry Lillis Crosby, a god score, and Fields' infamous rigged poker game.
Mississippi Mermaid
Released: 1969
Rated: PG
Now Playing? No
Like the Bride Wore Black, another Cornell Woolrich thriller, Gallicized and adapted by Francois Truffaut. Truffaut, of course, focuses more on elements of psychological romance and "love on the run" than on suspense and murder. (M.W.)
Mister Cory
Released: 1957
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Glib hustler finds true love. Early Blake Edwards, just finding his style. (M.W.)
Mister Lonely
Released: 2007
Rated: NR
Now Playing? No
Harmony Korine, the former It Boy of off-off-Hollywood filmmaking (Gummo, Julien Donkey-Boy), returns to the Cinema du Poète Maudit with this sweetly sad portrait of a colony of celebrity impersonators who'd rather be a fake somebody than a real nobody. Especially given its major subplot about a flock of nuns who jump out of airplanes without parachutes to test their faith, the movie doesn't make a whole lot of sense, except on the metaphysical plane, but Diego Luna and Samantha Morton bring a touching innocence to "Michael Jackson" and "Marilyn Monroe." (K.W.)
Mobsters, Inc.
Released: 2003
Rated: NR

Moby Dick
Released: 1956
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Herman Melville was a best-selling novelist when Moby Dick was published in 1851, but this grand, soaring allegory about mad Captain Ahab and the Great White Whale was so poorly received it nearly ruined him. The "respectable" critics hated it; they thought it wild and excessive, which should tell you something about "respectable" critics. John Huston's adaptation of this masterpiece, with a poetic scenario by Ray Bradbury, is good in many respects, but it has a puzzlingly bad piece of casting: Gregory Peck, who should have played Starbuck, is out of his depth as Ahab, a role that would have been perfect for Huston's old friend, Humphrey Bogart.

Jacques Demy's 1969 film about an American man about to be drafted for the Vietnam War (Gary Lockwood) and an exotic woman he meets (Anouk Aimee).
