Jafar Panahi’s movie about young women who dress up like boys to sneak into male-only professional soccer matches in present-day Iran is both an enjoyable comedy and a political allegory about life under the mullahs. Panahi brings a light touch to this gender-bender story. (K.W.)

Oklahoma Crude

Is Stanley Kramer trying to tell us something about his style? Anyway, his special admirers think particularly highly of this oil-rigging melodrama, which is sort of the liberal version of Gable's Boom Town.
Oklahoma!
Released: 1955
Rated:
Now Playing? No
The show said to have revolutionized the American stage musical: Rodgers and Hammerstein's gusty adaptation of Lynn Riggs' bucolic "Western" romance Green Grow The Lilacs. The movie version is too self-consciously "monumental," but it has great songs and good singers.
Old Dogs
Released: 2009
Rated: PG
Now Playing? No
No one’s heart seems to be in this witless comedy about a sports marketer (John Travolta) who discovers he’s the father of seven-year-old twins, then takes care of them with his business partner (Robin Williams). (M.B.)
Old Joy
Released: 2006
Rated: NR

This lovely little film is about how friendships, along with the political ideals that once sustained them, can wither and die. Mark (Daniel London) and Kurt (Will Oldham) are a pair of lefty types in their thirties who havenâ??t seen each other in a while, but when they return from an overnight camping trip itâ??s pretty clear, in a beautifully understated way, that they wonâ??t be going on any more trips together. (K.W.)

On Dangerous Ground
Released: 1952

Black is the color of the city, icy-white of the desolate countryside. The subject is police brutality, the hero is a detective who has become, through loneliness and frustration, a violent near-psychotic. The heroine is a blind woman whose brother is a demented rapist and killer. Through threatening landscapes, the rapist is pursued by two men barely less destructive than he is: his victim's crazed father and the vicious cop who loves his sister. This is one of the great B movies.
On Moonlight Bay
Released: 1951
Rated:
Now Playing? No
An apparently standard WB musical adaptation of Booth Tarkington's Penrod stories (fondly celebratory vignettes of Midwestern childhood which were among the treasure of my youth). The movie, with Penrod redubbed "Wesley Winfield," inspired the noted, slightly esoteric film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum to write an astonishing 91-page essay ("something small, warm, glowing, and at least momentarily precious...") in his recent Moving Places.
On the Beach
Released: 1959
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Atomic apocalypse, envisioned by Stanley Kramer (courtesy of Nevil Shute's novel) as a sort of all-star Australian holiday, interspersed with frequent sermonettes.

On the Road
Released: 2012
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
An aspiring writer (Sam Riley), his new friend (Garrett Hedlund) and his friend's seductive wife (Kristen Stewart) heed the call of the open road. (TMS)
On The Town
Released: 1949
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Three sailors on leave take a scrumptious bite of the Big Apple in this exuberant, dazzling musical. For its time, On The Town was revolutionary: Gene Kelly and his 25-year old ex-choreographer from Anchors Aweigh, Stanley Donen, shot the movie outdoors on the actual locations. Partially because of this, the movie, slight as its material may be, bursts with life. It's an exhilarating, dare-everything young man's picture, and after all these years - and despite Singin' In The Rain - it remains Gene Kelly's personal favorite among his films.
On the Waterfront
Released: 1954
Rated: NR
Now Playing? No
A dock worker and aspiring prize fighter (Marlon Brando) tries to stand up to a corrupt union boss in this 1954 classic.

Once
Released: 2006

This lovely little Irish film is a delicate love story in which most of the story is conveyed through the music. A Dublin busker (Glen Hansard) and a Czechoslovakian émigré (Marketa Irglova) fall in and out of harmony. (K.W.)
