James Ivory directs this tale of an American professor (Omar Metwally) who travels to Uruguay seeking permission to write a biography from a dead novelist’s relatives (Laura Linney, Anthony Hopkins). The film is exquisitely cast and lovely to look at, but its story is slight. (M.B.)
The Class

Rated: PG-13

A Parisian schoolteacher (François Bégaudeau) struggles to maintain order in his ethnically diverse classroom. The teen actors' performances are searing, and Bégaudeau is delicious as a noble educator who's not so noble.(K.B.)

Whirlwind courtship between a soldier on leave and an office girl at loose ends in New York City--a Manhattan that becomes magical, seductive, marking off the precious hours of their weekend together, threatens to drive them apart. One of the quintessential wartime romances, and Garland's best dramatic role before A Star Is Born.
The Closet

The Clowns
Released: 1971
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Fellini's glowing, phantasmagoric mixture of documentary and dream, a tale of all the world's clowns; clowns he saw as a boy; the clowns of today; white clowns; Augustes; clowns sour and merry; clowns who stand in one lonely white spotlight and trill with haunting sadness, the melody of "Ebb Tide"; clowns who, with a tiny trick of the imagination, a wink, become all of us as well. Wonderful.

The Travolta of the silents simmers and smolders. (M.W.)

The Coconuts
Released: 1929
Rated:

Parts of this movie--from the stage musical about Miami land-grabbing--are truly terrible, but that doesn't lessen its historical importance. This is the cinematic debut of that immortal trio--Groucho the Gabber, Harpo the Hedonist and Chico the Chiseler--with an assist from Zeppo the Zero. They're at their performing prime, and among the shows highs spots is the great "Viaduct...vy-a-duck?" routine.
The Cold Light of Day
Released: 2012
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
When his family is kidnapped, a Wall Street trader (Henry Cavill) and his secret-spy dad (Bruce Willis) must outsmart the captors. Though this should be a kick-ass action movie, it's as generic as store-brand corn flakes. (M.J.)
The Collection
Released: 2012
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
A young woman named Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick) sneaks out of her house one night to attend an exclusive party, unaware of the horror that awaits her. A sick criminal known as The Collector crashes the party in search of fresh victims. When Elena goes into hiding, she finds and frees Arkin (Josh Stewart), The Collector's captive. Arkin manages to escape, but Elena is taken prisoner. A mercenary friend of Elena's father then forces Arkin to come along on a mission to free the young woman. (TMS)
The Collector
Released: 2009
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
As a handyman (Josh Stewart) robs his new employer’s country home, a “collector” (Juan Fernández) arrives to set some lethal traps for the family. Despite top-notch effects, this feels like a series of leftover gore gags from the fading torture-porn genre. (M.S.)
The Collector (1965)
Released: 1965
Rated:
Now Playing? No
The butterfly and her collector: The excruciating psycho-sexual relationship between a shy, pathological bank clerk and the comely London art student whom he covets--and whom a sudden windfall puts within his grasp. Based on John Fowles' first novel, and brilliant on all counts; one of the highlights of the tasteful, impeccable career of William Wyler (The Best Years Of Our Lives, Jezebel).

This idiotic spoof of inspirational sports movies finds college misfits shooting for a football championship. (J.R.)
The Comic
Released: 1969
Rated:
Now Playing? No
The rise and fall of a superstar silent comedian, bedeviled by drink, bad marriages and the corrupt business machination of his studio. Based, fairly obviously, on the career of Buster Keaton--and, if it had stuck to Keaton's life more closely, it could have been annihilating.
The Company
Released: 2003
Rated: R

The Company Men
Released: 2011
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
A family man (Ben Affleck) is pink-slipped from his job at a corporation founded by greying, embattled friends (Craig T. Nelson, Tommy Lee Jones). This wan, uninvolving drama is undone by bombastic plot swerves, overscripted speeches and a fatal inclination toward sentimentality (K.J.)
The Company You Keep
Released: 2012
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
A small-town lawyer (Robert Redford) tries to hide from a reporter (Shia LaBeouf) who’s investigating his ties to the Weather Underground. This is an engaging thriller, but it has far too many name actors. (K.B.)
The Concorde: Airport "79 1979
Released: 0000
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Perhaps the most crazily cast of the entire Airport series. (In what other genre, besides a telethon, could you possibly fit Alain Delon, Bibi Andersson, Martha Raye, John Davison, Styvie Kristel, Cicely Tyson, Eddie Albert, Mercedes McCambridge and Charo into the same picture?) Let's hope the Zucker brothers and Jim Abrahams have killed this string off for all time.
The Condemned
Released: 2007
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
On a desolate island, a prisoner (Steve Austin) must fight other condemned men to the death, all of it filmed for TV viewing. This cheesy action movie could have used a lot more personality. (M.I.)
The Condemned Of Altona
Released: 1963
Rated:
Now Playing? No
An incredible project; TV scriptwriter Abby Mann adapts Jean-Paul Sarte's play for the director of Bicycle Thieves - and assembles a cast that seems better suited to a disaster epic. Asked how he feels when directing actors like Robert Wagner, DeSica replied: "Melancholy."
The Conformist

The Conjuring
