The Green Berets
Released: 1968

The subject: the Vietnam War. The Locale: Never-Never Land. Asked about this movie, Howard Hawks remarked: "Pretty Bad. Duke is a much better actor than he is a director." (M.W.)
The Green Hornet
Released: 2011
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
Director Michel Gondry brings little life to the comic-book tale of a masked vigilante (Seth Rogen) and his sidekick (Jay Chou). The script, co-written by Rogen, has a misguided bromance vibe. (M.S.)
The Green Hornet 3D

The Green Room
Released: 1979
Rated:

Henry James' The Altar Of The Dead, adapted with an odd kind of brisk melancholy by Francois Truffaut. One of his strangest and most underrated later works. I much prefer it to say, The Last Metro.
The Green, Green Grass of Home

The Greenhorns

The Grey
Released: 2012

A suicidal alpha male (Liam Neeson) and other survivors of an Alaskan plane crash battle bloodthirsty wolves. The film is a gripping, nuanced and intelligent study of the will to live. (M.B.)
The Grey Fox
Released: 1983
Rated:
Now Playing? No
An elderly stagecoach robber is released from prison in the Northwest in the early 1900s and tries, rather painfully, to adjust to new values, a new landscape, a new century. An understated film of almost shattering lyricism, with a great performance by Richard Farnsworth as the road agent. It's the best Western in years - so good, in fact, that it makes you wish they'd revive this almost dead genre.
The Groundstar Conspiracy
Released: 1972
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Tense and sly sci-fi spy thriller; director Lamont Johnson's fans began to notice him with this picture and The McKenzie Break.
The Group, Part 1
Released: 1966
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Mary McCarthy's acerbic look at a Vassar class, and how they fell out, in a slightly scattered adaptation. It has it moments.
The Grudge
Released: 2004
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
The Grudge 2
Released: 2006
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
A ludicrous script and terrible acting doom this sequel, in which a young woman (Amber Tamblyn) is exposed to the mysterious curse that afflicted her sister (Sarah Michelle Gellar). (M.S.)
The Guard
Released: 2011
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
A boozing, whoring, drug-taking cop (Brendan Gleeson) joins a straitlaced FBI agent (Don Cheadle) to bust a drug smuggling operation. This Irish action comedy is funny and rewarding. (K.B.)
The Guardian
Released: 2006
Rated: PG-13

Kevin Costner shines as a renowned rescue swimmer (Kevin Costner) who mentors a troubled young man (Ashton Kutcher) in the Coast Guard. The film sometimes gets lost in depicting the ennobling power of selflessness, but it also manages to poke a few holes in the hero myth. (J.R.)
The Guest
Released: 2014
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
A psychological thriller about a former soldier (Dan Stevens) who pays an unexpected visit to a mourning family.
The Guilt of Janet Ames
Released: 1947
Rated:
Now Playing? No
War widow seeks meaning of it all; suave journalist lends helping hand. (M.W.)
The Guilt Trip
Released: 2012
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
An inventor (Seth Rogen) grudgingly takes his mom (Barbra Streisand) on a road trip. Rogen and Streisand underplay their roles, and the plot is painfully predictable. (M.B.)
The Gun for hire
Released: 1942
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Graham Greene's superb melodrama about the hired killer who falls in love with the sweetheart of the policeman who is tracking him down - thoroughly botched. Perhaps it was a matter of inimical backgrounds; Greene was a conservative Catholic; Matlz and Tuttle were Communists.
The Gunfighter
Released: 1950
Rated:
Now Playing? No
An aging gunfighter holes up in a town saloon, juggling his memories, seeking a rapprochement with the wife he deserted, and fending off the attempts of gun-crazy kids to kill him and cash in on his reputation. Meanwhile, inexorably, doom is pounding across the plains toward him. A Western recast as a quasi-Greek tragedy. Poignant, grim, throbbingly tense; the best movie of pastoralist Henry King. (M.W.)
The Guns Of August
Released: 1965
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Based on Barbara Tuchman's riveting account of all the feints and maneuvers, cowardice, blunders, belligerence and occasional heroism of the first month of World War I.
The Guns Of Navarone
Released: 1961
Rated:
Now Playing? No
All-star World War II commando raid, with pacifist undercurrents fairly well disguised. (M.W.)
The Guru

Rated: R

The Gypsy and The Gentleman
Released: 1958
Rated:

Romance vs. social class, by director Joseph Losey, who later made the definitive British films on this theme (The Servant, The Go-Between.) (M.W.)
The Hamiltons

The Hangover
Released: 2009
Rated: R

A groom and groomsmen deal with the fallout of a bachelor party that went bizarrely over the top. This edgy, relentlessly funny comedy has the feel of one for the ages. (K.J.)
The Hangover Part II
Released: 2011
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
After an all-nighter in Thailand, friends (Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha) fragmentarily recount the debauch. Not quite as much fun as the original, but it doesn't lack for lunatic plot complications. (M.S.)
