MovieDescription
Topkapi
Released: 1964
Rated:
Now Playing? No
One of the ultimate caper movies: a "perfect" jewel robbery against the exotic backdrop of Istanbul. The cast mugs to the hilt and the amusing script is from Eric Ambler's The Light Of Day.
Topper Returns
Released: 1941
Rated:
Now Playing? No
More ectoplasmic high jinx with Cosmo Topper, this time involving a typically burlesqued "old dark horse" murder mystery. By now the humor is veering away from screwball romance and toward Abbott & Costello. (M.W.)
Topsy-Turvy
Released: 1999
Rated: R

Harking back to the days when the sun never set on the British empire.
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Released: 1970
Rated:
Now Playing? No
Spectacular re-creation of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor - shown from both sides. This is the film on which Akira Kurosawa, the original director of the Japanese sequences, suffered an emotional breakdown and attempted suicide. (M.W.)
Torment
Released: 1944
Rated:
Now Playing? No
A sadistic teacher tortures one of his female students to madness, while her lover struggles helplessly in the grip of emotional and psychological paralysis. A real historical curiosity: the director of record was Alf Sjoberg, but the dominant force behind the intense psychological melodrama was obviously its 26-year-old scenarist and assistant director, Ingmar Bergman. (M.W.)
Torn Curtain
Released: 1966
Rated:
Now Playing? No
In 1966, the spy thriller genre - which Alfred Hitchcock pioneered, and in which he had made several masterpieces - had become, thanks to James Bond, a commercial movie powerhouse. Spy thrillers were everywhere - and Hitchcock reacted by making Torn Curtain and Topaz. Disliked in their day, they were an interesting attempt to fuse paradigmatic suspense techniques with a more realistic look at international espionage. Torn Curtain, in fact, focuses on a domestic crisis: the emotional turmoil of an American scientists' wife who believes her husband is defecting to the communists. It's not exactly a Hitchcock classic, but it contains one of his greatest sequences: a long, excruciating murder with the scientists (Newman) trying frantically to stab, strangle, bludgeon and asphyxiate a meddling East German police agent named Gromek. The point of this shocking scene: In contrast to the Bond mythos, it is hard to kill a human being.

A man (Colin Farrell) is tormented by nightmares that may be memories of a life he cannot recall. Director Len Wiseman's take on a Philip K. Dick short story features blazingly fast action, but there's none of the humor of Paul Verhoven's 1990 original. (M.S.)

Towelhead

Towelhead: During the first Gulf War, a half-Caucasian, half-Lebanese girl awkwardly discovers sexuality and self-identity. This film -- discomfiting but leavened with humor -- moves, incites, and jabs, all while reminding us how difficult it is to grow up female and sane in this world. (M.B.)
Tower Heist

Rated: PG-13

With his motley crew, a luxury condo manager (Ben Stiller) goes rogue after he loses the staff's pension to a penthouse-dwelling big shot (Alan Alda). This lean and likable action comedy motors along at a satisfying clip. (K.J.)
