MovieDescription
When in Rome
Released: 2010
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
A worthless romantic comedy about a heartsick woman (Kristen Bell) whose dive into a Roman fountain leads men to magically fall in love with her. Bell is blah, and the suitors (Danny De Vito, Will Arnett, Jon Heder) are strenuously unfunny. (K.J.)

The story of Bob Ladouceur (Jim Caviezel), coach of a record-shattering high school football team. Caviezel comes off as vaguely sociopathic, and weak characterization makes it hard to tell the teammates apart. (K.J.)

When You're Strange
Released: 2010
Rated: R
Now Playing? No
Writer-director Tom DiCillo blew an opportunity with this ludicrously overblown documentary about rock legends the Doors. The film sinks under the weight of its absurd pretensions; Johnny Depp's hilariously solemn narration doesn't help. (K.B.)

Where Do We Go Now?
Released: 2011
Rated: PG-13
Now Playing? No
In a war-torn land, Muslim and Christian village women unite to stop the fighting. Nadine Labaki, who directs, cowrites and stars, has made a musical dramedy that's a little busy and a little silly, but it's a brave, willfully strange take on the strife in Lebanon. (K.B.)
Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?

Adopting a faux-naïve shtick, Super Size Me’s Morgan Spurlock set out to find America’s Most Wanted, and the result is a once-over-lightly exploration of the Middle East, Afghanistan, Pakistan and beyond. Injecting a little humor into these regions isn’t such a bad idea, and Spurlock has a real knack for putting people at ease, thereby giving us a valuable sense of how the rest of the world sees us. (K.W.)

Spike Jonez films Maurice Sendak's beloved children's tale about an angry child and the fantastic creatures he bosses around. That very short book is mythic in its power, but this expanded version of the story just feels cluttered. (K.B.)

Which Way is Up?

Lina Wertmuller's The Seduction of Mimi, a sex comedy about terrorism and corruption, remade as a Richard Pryor vehicle. Weird - and a good way down from Wertmuller - but Pryor should experiment like this more often.

Ellen Page (Juno) slips away from her sleepy Texas town and her beauty-pageant-mad mother (Marcia Gay Harden) for the roller-derby rink. Drew Barrymore's directing debut teems with girl-power spirit and exudes an all-encompassing benevolence. (M.B.)
