A hard rock cakewalk takes a turn to the gory in a new music video from IfIHadAHiFi, a group of four accomplished cacaphonists from Milwaukee that has long been a familiar musical presence in Madison. The band has wrapped up making its new album Fame By Proxy, and is in the process of creating several videos to build buzz for its release. First off the block is the six-minute squall "Success! Success! Success!" featuring guest vocals from Dixie Jacobs of white wrench conservatory.
We shot this sucker in April of this year at the Borg Ward, a DIY gallery/performance space on National here in Milwaukee," explains IfIHadAHiFi drummer DrAwkward. It was directed by Jay Bauman, who claimed the stake for making the video when the band asked their filmmaker friends if they wanted to lend a hand. "I remember telling him 'the only thing I really see for this video is that... I'm thinking cake walk, maybe musical chairs,'" notes the doc. "And Jay went off that and came up with the insane carnage that you see playing out in front of your eyes in the video!"
"I still can't believe it looks as good as it does, considering we shot it with a budget of zero dollars exactly," declares DrAwkward. "Well, ok, I paid $4 to Value Village for the shirts and tie I'm wearing in the video."
More music by the band can be found at its MySpace page. IfIHadAHiFi is visiting to Madison to kickoff the long Independence Day weekend, and will be playing with The Suit and Dead End Rejects at Inferno on Thursday, July 3. The group will be returning to town come the end of summer, meanwhile, with a show at The Frequency on Friday, September 5, one night before their official free CD release party at the Cactus Club in Milwaukee.
