Sundance Madison has released another schedule of films in its Screening Room series, which consistently presents intriguing foreign and indie fare. The latest lineup is generous with documentaries.
Here's what's playing:
Sept. 2-8: Tabloid
Errol Morris' latest documentary is a somewhat condescending look at a 1970s scandal involving a beauty queen, a Mormon missionary and an alleged abduction.
Sept. 9-15: Cave of Forgotten Dreams
Werner Herzog examines cave paintings in this acclaimed documentary. I'm still trying to determine whether this will be shown in the 3D presentation that got everyone talking. Check back for details. Update: It's in 2D.
Sept. 9-15: The Last Mountain
This documentary is about a struggle in West Virginia, where a community is trying to save Coal River Mountain from the environmental effects of mining.
Sept. 16-22: Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest
Directed by the busy actor Michael Rapaport (remember him in Zebrahead?), this is a documentary about the titular 1990s hip-hop group.
Sept. 16-22: The Names of Love
In this French comedy, a liberal woman converts conservative men by taking them to bed.
Sept. 23-23: Shut Up Little Man
This documentary, which screened at the 2011 Wisconsin Film Festival, centers on the tape recordings made by a couple of young San Francisco men, former Madisonians, of their squabbling neighbors.
Sept. 23-29: Life in a Day
National Geographic's documentary gathers YouTube-submitted footage shot all over the world within one 24-hour period.
Sept. 30-Oct. 6: Point Blank
A nurse's pregnant wife is kidnapped in this French thriller.
