"The Blue Man Group was pretty amazing," writes Erik Weiss about the show staged in Madison on Tuesday night by a trio of PVC-pounding, cerulean-hued homologues.
"It was a funny show (making fun of a cliché rock concert), a deep show (they touched on global warming, September 11, information overload, identity, and depression), and an insanely loud and bright show (my chair was thumping the whole night)," he continues, describing the variety of elements in this particular iteration (titled concert clip of the group performing "Your Attention" follows below.
Another person attending the show was not enamored with opening performer notes, so enthused that she jokingly pondered shaving her head and painting it blue. "I didn't know you could get such great sounds out of plastic pipes and hoses," she continues. "There was a lot of visual stuff too: lasers and video as well as sight gags. It was very smart and very current for a band that's over 20 years old."
Weiss shot another short video, of the Blue Man Group performing "Time to Start" (here). If you want to catch them live, though, you'll have to head south to warmer climes, as the show is scheduled to stop in Columbia, Mo., Birmingham, Ala., and New Orleans over the next few days.
