Fatboy Slim's "Praise You" is one of the more frequently parodied music videos found online. Released in 1999, the original famously captures a fictional dance troupe performing a routine choreographed to the electronica hit in front of a Los Angeles move theater, as shot surreptitiously by director Spike Jonze. Since then, fans have tried to re-create the scene in a variety of locations and situations.
If you attended the Mifflin Street Block Party nearly three months ago, you might have witnessed one such performance. A dozen people attempted to re-create the choreographed dance amid the variously cheering, bemused, and disinterested revelers at the late spring gathering in downtown Madison.
This music video homage follows below.
The mastermind behind the performance was Mike Williams, a UW student who >a gathered members of the international student exchange program AIESEC Madison (and various other participants) to provide some entertainment for the Mifflin Street revelers.
