Masters of the Obvious, better known as and
Actually, that was "Till The End Of The Day" by The Kinks. A friend/collaborator, Barry Goubler, once accidentally referred to "Till The End Of The Day" as "Every Day Of The Week," and I thought it'd be fun to write a "great lost Kinks" song. It's just funny that the bridge melody to "The Word" would fit in as well as it did. We don't play that song live, though. It's too stupid.
OK, enough, Kyle, but he raises a good point. The M.O.T.O. catalog is often like an encyclopedia of music from the past four decades, with sly tributes and references to other songs (as on "Every Day of the Week") scattered throughout. But has the band ever played any actual covers?
Yes, many, many covers over the years -- we haven't recorded many covers though. There's a cover of King Harvest's "Dancing In The Moonlight" floating around somewhere, as well as a version on Shonen Knife's "Parallel Woman."
I'd rather not play covers live -- I won't rule it out, but most likely not.
Is there any chance of a second "Single File" collection to round up more of those rare 7-inch tracks? Or more CDR transfers of some of the other early cassettes?
Yes, there is. Hopefully there should be another singles collection coming out on Lady Kinky Karrot Records in Italy recently. I'll have some copies for sale at the show. God knows I need the money.
M.O.T.O. plays the show gets under way at 10 p.m., and Pistols at Dawn and Nick Junkunc and Nick Woods of The Box Social round out the bill.
