Help 'em out
Whitewater musician Patrick Peterson has played or worked at benefit shows for numerous causes, including events like Robstock Riverjam, which he organized with his wife, Ruth. Now Peterson, a member of bands such as The Pipe Circus, Avengers Assemble, Sector 3 and other projects, could use a helping hand himself following surgery in September for a brain tumor, and subsequent ongoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Live. Love. Rock: A Benefit for Patrick Peterson will take place Saturday, Nov. 14, at Deerfield's Cuda Cafe (which closed a while back but will be open for this special event). Doors open at 4 p.m. with music by The Groggers, followed by the Dave Ellingson Project at 5:15 p.m., Chris Winkleman at 6:45 p.m., The Dots at 8:30 p.m. and The Blue Olives at 10 p.m. Those who can't make the show but would like to help can direct donations to the Patrick Peterson Benefit Fund at First Citizens Bank, 207 W. Main St., Whitewater, WI 53190.
Audience participation
Round four of Isthmus Band to Band Combat is here! Voting is underway and continues through noon on Wednesday, Nov. 11. If you've voted in previous rounds use the same password for the final online round; new voters are still welcome as well. The final two bands will face off live at the Frequency on Thursday, Nov. 19, and will be chosen from the four bands still standing: The Midwest Beat, The Selfish Gene, The Shibs/Sharp and Harkins Band and Soul Shaker.
Recorded for posterity
Enterprising music fans could potentially be a part of the audience for three audio and video recording projects taking place on Friday, Nov. 13. First up is rock quintet The LeeDing Zeros, who will unveil a new single, "I'm Alive," and are shooting video for a planned YouTube broadcast. Their performance gets underway at 5:30 p.m. at the High Noon Saloon.
Drums-n-Moore founder Rand Moore's Jazz Quintet has been a regular part of the schedule at Liliana's Restaurant in Fitchburg, and they'll be recording Friday's sets for posterity, with show time at 6:30 p.m. Moore is also a member of the Madison Jazz Orchestra, and the quintet includes MJO players Vince Jesse on guitar, John Schaffer on bass and Bill Grahn and Jeff Sime on sax.
Round out the evening with country juggernaut Madison County, who will be recording their performance at Pooley's for a live DVD. They'll take the stage at 9 p.m., and the Rowdy Prairie Dogs will also be playing a set. The DVD is projected to have a quick turnaround; a band publicist says it will be available to fans for the Christmas season.
It's not happening
Legendary guitarist Tony Rice's performance with his "spacegrass" Unit at the Stoughton Opera House has been postponed until Friday, April 23, due to a scheduling conflict for one of the band members. Any audience members with a conflict should contact the box office at 877-4400.
