Hip-hop, house and local acts spice up Memorial Union Terrace's summer 2013 music lineup

This summer's characteristically diverse music slate at Memorial Union Terrace will feature stellar rappers El-P and Killer Mike, electronic musician Maxmillion Dunbar, and even a respectable showing from Madison-based acts.

El-P and Killer Mike (July 20) have been pooling their rapping and production talents a lot in the past couple of years, including on Killer Mike's 2012 album RAP Music. The duo will soon release a collaborative album under the name Run the Jewels. Killer Mike will be fresh off a run of tour dates with Big Boi.

Maxmillion Dunbar (Aug. 9) will play Madison in support of his recent album House of Woo, which has garnered high praise for its beautifully finessed take on house music and much more.

Other noteworthy Terrace performers include Adelyn Rose (June 7), Field Report (June 27), the delightfully batty Mac DeMarco (June 28) and Pokey LaFarge (Aug. 3).

It's also reassuring to see lots of Madison-based acts on the schedule, and not just for the customary Behind the Beat series of early-evening jazz shows. Locals in a Wednesday-evening series include Anna Vogelzang and Dietrich Gosser (June 19), MCs Tefman and Sincere Life (July 3), PHOX (July 10), and Pushmi-Pullyu and Icarus Himself (July 24).

In keeping with Terrace custom, Natty Nation will return on June 15. On Aug. 23, expect many people to sing along with Milwaukee's Pat McCurdy, whose songs are either funny or terrifying, depending on your taste.

The Isthmus Jazz Festival features vocalist Carmen Lundy and regional acts (June 21-22).

More details are available in the "Terrace After Dark" music schedule.
