Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass
Whipped Cream and Other Delights Rewhipped (Shout Factory)

Herb Alpert's Latin-influenced and trumpet-inspired pop music pushed the multicultural envelope of 1960s Top 40. In today's era of down-tempo DJ bars that chill out martini drinkers at urban happy hours all over America, the master of lounge music is overdue for rediscovery.

Rewhipped tries to put Alpert on this generation's musical map. It's a remix of his classic Whipped Cream and Other Delights on the 40th anniversary of its release (even remixing the provocative original cover art). Aiming to build on Whipped Cream, Rewhipped is a spine-chilling interpretation that reveals the essential ingredients of 21st-century lounge - heavy percussion and a barrage of arranged samples. The remix of "Ladyfingers" by Camara Kabon has the smooth ambience of a track from Moby's Play.

For those whose knowledge of Alpert's influence doesn't extend beyond the theme from "The Dating Game" or his status as the "A" in A&M records, Rewhipped is a must-hear.
