Big lizards
Though "Alligator" refers to the alligator tears cried for someone who's no longer worth the effort, the title might get you thinking about actual alligators and how uncool it would be if one bit you. The single from 2009's Sainthood packs so much plucky piano and punchy percussion that it's impossible to stay stuck in a swamp of heartbreak - and possible to think those snub-nosed reptiles are kind of cute.
Being burned alive
There's no way to make this scenario anything less than horrifying, so just put it out of your mind while listening to "Burn Your Life Down" from 2007's The Con. It's easy since this tune has nothing to do with fire. Instead, it's a lovely, sad song inspired by the twins' grandpa saying he didn't want to take road trips after his copilot, their grandmother, died.
Being hit by lightning
Paired with the visceral line "Knocked your heart right out of sync," the titular chorus of "Shock to Your System" approximates what a zap from the heavens can do to a person. Though the cold sheen of this industrial-light jam from Heartthrob doesn't make lightning any less scary, the sisters' pleas that you "rely on love" should get rid of your goose bumps.
