Scatz, the Middleton sports bar and music club that has been closed since March, is one step closer to having its liquor license reinstated.
According to Scatz owner Scott Piernot, the venue's liquor license review has been scheduled for July 12 at 5:30 pm before the Middleton License and Ordinance Committee. Piernot says the Middleton City Council will hear the review on July 19.
In a June 14 email to Middleton Police Capt. Noel Kakuske, Piernot continued his recent spate of pledges to disassociate Scatz and hip-hop.
"I made a business mistake submitting to a genre of music after saying no, no, no for a year and a half," he wrote.
One of the longest-tenured nonstudent radio hosts on WSUM (91.7FM) is DJ Renton, who also helps run a local vinyl record label, Wax Off.
Late last year Wax Off signed the New York City rock band Wormburner and released Placed by the Gideons. The release has generated plenty of indie buzz. In May, Wormburner visited the studio of Seattle's KEXP, the influential online radio station (kexp.org).
The band's melodic and quirky approach to rock makes it easy to see what the buzz is all about.
Lubriphonic are putting those grainy cell-phone gig videos to shame. The Chicago blues-funk band posted a visually luxurious and professionally recorded clip of themselves performing "Haulin' Shine" to YouTube in April.
