Tami Hart pummels drums for MEN, but her singing is likely to make her a full-fledged star. Social Life, the debut from the Brooklynite's newest project, Making Friendz, deconstructs her folkie roots with a combination of lo-fi punk and dance-friendly electropop.
"Situation," the album's first single, fuses garage-rock fuzz with slick sing-along verses that include a very catchy spelling lesson. Hart alternates breathy, disco-diva stylings and riot grrrl snarls in "Luv Cruizin," then laces funky electronics with a sultry croon on "Don't Make Me Cry." However, it's the melancholy "Reject Me" that might rock the radio, distilling smoldering, Robyn-esque vocals into a masterful mix of R&B and New Order-style synthpop.
