UP: Casey and Ross Gundlach. The Associated Press reports that Marine Sgt. Gundlach, who served as a dog handler in Afghanistan, is given custody of the Labrador, Casey, that he served with there. "I promised her if we made it out alive, I'd do whatever it took to find her." After finishing military service, Casey was sent to the Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office. Gundlach, who now lives in Madison, made several appeals to get custody of the dog. They were reunited with the help of the Iowa Elks Association.
DOWN: UW System. Gov. Scott Walker announces he's cutting more than half of his proposed $181 million funding boost for the system in the wake of reports it had $648 million in reserves. That ought to teach the UW a lesson about running a fiscally sound institution.
