UP: Dave Mahoney. Dane County's sheriff this week announces he's cut the cost of sending inmates to other county jails from $2.9 million in 2006 to just $377,000 last year; no inmates have been sent out-of-county during the last four months. Mahoney also pointedly dissents from the county's questionable policy of rebuffing emailed open records requests, saying his office will accept these as valid.
DOWN: Overture Center. The Mr. Potter-wannabe bankers that lent money for the arts palace send a "threatening" letter warning of possible foreclosure over outstanding debt. Madison taxpayers, jumping from one to another cultural allusion, importune the good Mr. Frautschi: "Please, sir, can we have some more?"
