UP: Roger Charly. The owner of Budget Bicycle does not have to sell his Charter Street building to animal rights activists. A state appeals court unanimously decides he can renege on a deal to sell the site, between the UW-Madison's two major primate research centers, to the Primate Freedom Project for $675,000. The group wants the site for a museum highlighting research abuses. Charly changed his mind after the university offered him $1 million instead.
DOWN: Madison lakes. Brianne Schuetz, 18, becomes ill after going for a swim in Lake Mendota near the Memorial Union. Schuetz suffers severe joint pain, a headache, rash, upset stomach and fatigue. A doctor ties these symptoms to her exposure to blue-green algae; health officials say she's the fourth person in the area to be thus affected.
