The city of Madison has released the official map for Freakfest 2007, the Halloween party and concert that will be taking over State Street on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The locations of the fences and gates are nearly the same as they were for the 2006 event, with nine ways to enter the party and 13 ways to exit it. There are a few minor changes, though:
- The fenced area will not include the entrance to the Walgreens at the corner of State and Lake streets, so downtown residents will be able to access this drug store at the periphery of the party without buying a ticket.
- The fencing on the 400 block of West Gilman Street will extend to include Amy's Café and the Blue Velvet cocktail lounge within the perimeter of the event; both bars experienced a significant loss of business last year due to their exclusion.
- The fencing on the 300 block of West Gilman Street will be extended towards its intersection with Henry Street in order to keep the entirety of Peace Park within the confines of the party.
The map includes entrances and exits, ticket sales locations, stages and sponsor tent, restrooms, taxi stands, the foot court, and the Glass-Free Zone encompassing the party and adjacent blocks.
"We're taking this away from being something known for police and turning it into a community-wide safe and fun event," says Joel Plant, an aide to Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and the primary city organizer behind Freakfest.
