Though every gate in and out of Freakfest on State Street was utilized on Saturday night by Halloween revelers, the busiest one by far was located at the west end of the party. This was the intersection of Lake and State streets, right next to the UW campus and a primary gateway to downtown Madison. The wait fluctuated through the night, due in part to both new arrivals and the return visits of persons grabbing a bit to eat from a food cart in Library Mall.
A short video featuring the crowds moving in and out of the gated party area follows below.
There were 13 gates in all permitting access to the party. They were established at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, and closed to entry at 1:30 a.m. (before the end of Daylight Savings Time) on Sunday, Oct. 29.
