One word to describe Mayor Dave Cieslewicz's schedule this week: Lame! He puts in two days before heading up nort' to Ashland for something called the "Wisconsin Alliance of Cities" annual meeting.
Sounds official, doesn't it? Maybe there will be three days of intense discussions about urban issues in our state. Maybe the participating mayors and other officials will come up with a plan to battle Assembly Republicans who seem motivated only to ensure that places like Madison and Milwaukee get no state funds for anything. But an examination of the organization's website reveals the following set for the meeting's first day:
Wednesday's schedule so far: registration will be from 11:30 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. at the hotel. Tee-off times for golf at the Chequamegon Bay Golf Club begin at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25. The cost is $44 for 18 holes with a cart. You can find the course at www.golfashland.com. There are also tennis courts near the clubhouse. You may wish to stop by the free Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center on Co. Hwy. G & Hwy. 13 to wander through the exhibit hall or visit the gift shop. Or, plan on visiting the sea caves in Lake Superior via kayak or canoe.
Maybe they'll get to all that other stuff on Thursday.
