A Dane County jury finds Perry Lucas guilty of second-degree intentional homicide for killing Detarius Martin in Fitchburg in June 2009. Lucas' lawyer argued he acted in self-defense. He faces up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced in about two months.
The Madison school district says it will delay for a year implementing a controversial proposal that was met with protests and complaints. The plan was to standardize regular and advanced levels in math, science, English and social studies, but to many that sounded like "tracking" - separating pupils based on academic ability.

The deal is inked in anticipation of the election of Republican Scott Walker, who has vowed to stop the train project. Voters in several dozen Dane County communities also say no to nonbinding referenda asking if they want to see a half-cent sales tax to support commuter rail.
