The f-word
Emily Mills' article "We're All in This Together" (8/19/11) is thoughtful and well articulated. However, in mentioning the "disconnect" between Scott Walker and his opposition, be it with the Dems in the Legislature, or in the populace, she, like many others, seems to be missing a key point. The following is a definition of fascism: "a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism."
I believe it is time we start to call the proverbial spade a spade and take a good look at what is happening to our political system, in Wisconsin, and in the nation.

Overture Center DOA
The Overture Center ("Overture Is Not Alone," 8/19/11) should never have been built. If those "in control" would have accepted the original $50 million offered by Frautschi and conservatively invested it, there would have been $1 million to $2 million available every year to distribute to the Madison arts scene.
Just think about that…every student in Madison able to play an instrument and attend performances, free of charge. Every theater group able to apply for a grant to subsidize performance programs, props, publicity, etc. It could have supported potters, photographers, dancers, actors, musicians - everyone in the arts arena.
What we have now is a massive gravestone that is struggling to remain stable and has done very little to enhance the arts in the Madison area.
