The inaugural writes Jim Hanson (an Isthmus sales rep), who stopped by the display Saturday afternoon and shot footage of many of the entries, spanning more than 60 years of auto history.
His resulting five-minute video tour of "Cars on State" -- set appropriately to "Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die!" -- follows below.
"Event organizers said they were shocked at the tremendous interest the idea received in its first year," writes Nick Heynen in a report on the event for The Daily Page, as spaces in the display were filled weeks ago. The interest was similarly intense from spectators, and several shared their thoughts about the Cars on State.
The show "looked like a success from my vantage point near Triangle Market," writes Brad Vogel, who was busking with an accordion during the show. Similar comments were made by a pair of attendees -- here and here -- who both shot numerous pictures of the static parade of cars and noted the popularity of the Delorean parked on its west end near Lake Street. Another about the show on the Madison Flickr group.
Planning for next year's Car on State is already under way; auto owners are encouraged to contact Hawk Schenkel, owner of Hawk's Bar & Grill and an event organizer. It looks like summer tourism in Madison just got another major boost.
