Nearly 18 months ago, specifically Oct. 26, 2005, Clem Snide frontman Eef Barzelay rolled through Madison. His free solo show jammed the tiny confines of Indie Coffee on Regent Street. Barzelay played 15 songs, one of which was the unreleased "Beard of Bees."
Madison music doyen (and Isthmus contributor) Kiki Schueler attended the show, noting the size of the crowd and the presence of multiple local musicians. She concluded:
There was even admirable audience participation from an enthusiastic yet completely respectful crowd. We were expected to sing, mostly a cappella, the line 'pray for the unbelievers, pray-ay-ay for the unbelievers,' while he instructed us -- keep going, louder, now stop. Surprisingly, even with me singing, it sounded good... I'm not sure what the non-Clem Snide followers with me thought (they were noncommittal after), but I was certainly very glad I was there.
The nearly three-minute solo concert clip -- as shot by Christian Schneider (the blogger formerly known as "Dennis York") -- follows below.
