The Local's open mike is documented most weeks by Nick Giffin. "One of the enjoyable things about going to The Local Tavern on Wednesday nights is the fluid lineup," he wrote about the April 25 show. "But the reason I go back is they're all pretty darn good." As is the case most weeks at the tavern, Thomas is the last to take the microphone. Giffin briefly describes his performance:
Last up was Blake Thomas. There isn't much to add regarding Blake's talent. There's only so many ways to say, "Huh, he's pretty good!" before it gets stale.
Except this night he was decked out in a girl's pink sweater and big sunglasses. Adding to the comedy was, unbeknownst to both his roommate and his girlfriend, he dyed his hair bright blond last weekend. Any stranger walking in off the street would have thought they'd walked into Bizarro world.
Giffin's concert video of Thomas' performance of his original song "How Long" follows.
Giffin has reviewed numerous performances by Blake Thomas over the last several months, primarily at The Local. These include live performances on April 11, April 7, April 4, March 28, March 14, March 13, March 7, March 6, February 15, Feb. 14, and Jan. 13. More music by Thomas can be found at his MySpace page as well as at the MySpace page for his band, The Downtown Brown.
