Dark Void is fairly fun and fresh, despite dumbness on 01/29/10 at 9:00 am | Funny dialogue awaits you in Dark Void. But I think it's accidentally funny, instead of funny on purpose, like in a B-movie. Then again, this is a humans vs. aliens shooting game, set in the Bermuda Triangle, so that's kind of accidentally funny in itself. |

Friends kill together in Army of Two: The 40th Day on 01/22/10 at 9:00 am | The truth can be found in simple conversation. My friend David calls and asks, "Hey man, what game are you playing?" "Army of Two: The 40th Day," I say. "Is it any good?" David asks. "Um. Meh. It's kind of good. But it's just another shooting game where you kill people." |
Bayonetta: The trouble with angels on 01/15/10 at 9:00 am | Here is an extremely important lesson for everyone who makes videogames for a living. Go play Bayonetta. Look at how truly breathtaking it is. Then play your way to the heinous, fun-killing "Chapter VI" level called "Verse 5" to find out why I went from loving this game to sort of hating it. |
Good Wii games sure are hard to find on 01/08/10 at 9:00 am | I'm always looking for good Wii games to recommend to you, but I keep finding duds. Like I always say, the Wii is a fun system, but it doesn't offer many entertaining titles, especially compared to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. |

Color your world in Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter on 12/31/09 at 9:00 am | Here at the turn of the year, there are no exciting new games to review. So I'll turn my attention to a good game I overlooked a few months ago called Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter. |

Viva La Resistance in The Saboteur on 12/11/09 at 9:00 am | The Saboteur is a very good Grand Theft Auto-type game, set in Paris during World War II. You portray an Irish race-car driver who works in the French Resistance to kill Nazis, hijack cars and blow up anti-aircraft guns. |

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is challenging fun on 11/26/09 at 9:00 am | In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, you play as Mario (or Luigi, or a toad) while fighting your way through a magical land of walking mushrooms and winged turtles, en route to finding and saving Princess Peach, who has been kidnapped -- for the zillionth time. |
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gets even closer to reality on 11/20/09 at 9:00 am | I've been playing online team-battles of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox Live. The other day, I heard a teammate say he was a military guy in real life. Then he announced, "Y'all don't even know how much more realistic to war this is than Call of Duty 4." |
Forza 3 and Tekken 6 are so simplistic, my mind drifts while playing them on 11/13/09 at 9:00 am | I've got two somewhat disappointing video games this week. Or as I declared on Facebook, "meh." Of the two, the better game is the racing simulator Forza Motorsport 3. It's a pretty good racer for those of you who enjoy car simulators. |
Ratchet and Borderlands: Good, but not for me on 11/06/09 at 9:00 am | Just because I don't want to play a certain video game very much doesn't mean I hate it. To the contrary, two new video games are quite good, objectively speaking (they're entertaining and impressive), but simply aren't my cup of coffee. |
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves delivers globe-trotting adventure on 10/30/09 at 9:00 am | This fall continues to be a very good season for games. The latest, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, is an excellent and addictive action-adventure where you portray an Indiana Jones-styled explorer searching for the lost treasures of Shangri-La, as you follow clues left behind by Marco Polo. |
Brutal Legend embraces heavy metal while thrashing it on 10/23/09 at 9:00 am | Brutal Legend is a wondrous, creative video game that feels like Conan the Barbarian meets This Is Spinal Tap. Which means you kill a lot of monsters on a fantasy planet of Nordic ruins, megaliths and Stonehenge replicas -- by playing heavy metal music on your flying-V guitar. |
NBA 2K10 cheats and scores while NBA Live 10 just steals on 10/16/09 at 9:00 am | Question: Why do sports games cheat? I mean, here you are in NBA 2K10, playing as the L.A. Lakers, and you're killing, say, the Sacramento Kings in the third quarter. And you should be. You're a better team. |
Scribblenauts is a gaming revelation on 10/09/09 at 9:00 am | It's remarkable how little you need to hear about some games to get a feeling for how they play. |
Microsoft puts the shine back on with Halo ODST on 10/02/09 at 9:00 am | After the tiresome Halo Wars, Halo ODST turns out to be fun and thoughtful. It's a shooter set in the 26th century, in the sci-fi time before Halo 3. You play as a rookie soldier for most of the game. You walk through city streets, blasting aliens with laser guns, machine guns and shotguns. |
Wet is grindhouse gritty, part Kill Bill, part Lara Croft on 09/25/09 at 9:00 am | In Wet, Rubi is just minding her own business as a sexy mercenary, an angry cuss wearing chest-tight leather with an itch to scratch. Then, this big mob guy tells her how much he likes her, and asks if can he hire her for a killing job. |
The Beatles: Rock Band: All you need is money on 09/18/09 at 9:00 am | The Beatles: Rock Band will probably be one of the top-grossing titles in video game history, not for the disc alone, but because there's so much money to be made from the peripherals. |
Batman: Arkham Asylum melds deadpan imagination with fun gameplay on 09/11/09 at 9:00 am | Batman escorts Joker into Arkham Asylum. Joker escapes. For the rest of the game, you play as Batman as he wends his way through many hours of tracking Joker down. |
Shoot the Nazis in Wolfenstein on 09/04/09 at 9:00 am | Middleton's Raven Software made its name developing PC and then next-generation games bearing familiar names, from Star Wars to X-Men and Quake. This year, Raven got its hands on one of the most valued series in gaming and has delivered one of the summer's best games, Wolfenstein. |
Madden NFL 10 is not a must-buy on 08/28/09 at 9:00 am | The question I hear the most from readers is, "Do I have to buy the new Madden football game?" They are still playing last year's Madden, and they like it, and they don't want to spend $60 for the new one. |
G.I. Joe disappoints, but Prototype rules on 08/21/09 at 9:00 am | The old expression is, "You can't judge a book by its cover." I'd like to amend that cliché today to, "You really, really, really can't judge a video game by its cover. Seriously. I am not kidding." |

Pigskin preview on 07/31/09 at 9:00 am | Two news stories are revolving around the release of NCAA Football 10 -- neither of which has anything to do with the fact that the new game is pretty good but infuriatingly flawed. |
No magic in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on 07/24/09 at 9:00 am | The video game, on the other hand -- despite its nice, big sets and faithfulness to the main characters -- is too simplistic to hold interest (perhaps even for little kids), and not dazzling in any way. |
New Transformers and Bigs 2 just not my cup of tea on 07/17/09 at 9:00 am | You may find it hard to believe, but the new baseball game The Bigs 2 is way, way nuttier than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. |

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 demonstrates what video games do best on 07/03/09 at 9:00 am | It's remarkable that I still get this eager feeling with every swing, even though I've been playing Tiger Woods games for years. It's not like I'm a newbie enraptured for the first time by the series' beauty, intuitive feel and exhilaration. |
