American Players Theatre's "Blithe Spirit" Theater and Dance Noel Coward comedy, 7:30 pm on 6/16 & 22 and 8 pm, 6/18, American Players Theatre, Spring Green. $70-$40. www.playinthewoods.org or 588-2361
Written by Noel Coward
Directed by David Frank
Opening Night: Saturday, June 18; continues through September 9.
After losing his first wife Elvira, Charles Condomine has settled into a routine life with his new (and more predictable) wife, Ruth. But when the Condomines host a séance at their house, something calls Elvira back. She's funny, needy and manipulative, and not necessarily in that order. This might be less of a problem if Ruth weren't already on the jealous side (perpetual cat fight, anyone?).
This rollicking Coward comedy is directed by APT Producing Artistic Director, David Frank. The cast features Core Acting Company members Colleen Madden as Ruth, Jim DeVita as Charles and David Daniel as Dr. Bradman. Milwaukee Rep favorite Deborah Staples returns to APT to play Elvira, and Susan Sweeney plays Madame Arcati.
APT's spectacular outdoor amphitheater will play host to five classic works: William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" and "The Tempest", Noël Coward's comic masterpiece "Blithe Spirit", Richard Brinsley Sheridan's hilarious Restoration comedy "The Critic" and the American classic "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck. The plays in the intimate, indoor Touchstone Theatre are: Tennessee Williams' masterpiece "The Glass Menagerie", "Crime and Punishment," an adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel written by Marilyn Campbell and Curt Columbus and "The Cure at Troy: a Version of Sophocles' Philoctetes" by Seamus Heaney.
