Farley's Presents: Beethoven Integrale of Sonatas and Variations for Piano and Cello

Farley’s House of Pianos, Madison’s complete piano store, presents two evenings of Beethoven Sonatas and Variations performed by Parry Karp, cellist, and Eli Kalman, pianist. Performances will be held on April 19 at 7:30pm and April 21st at 4:30pm, with different pieces performed for each concert.

The two-concert performance will feature works exclusively by Beethoven, including all the composer's cello sonatas, as well as variations on works by Handel and Mozart. Each performance will include variations on a different theme from Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. Sunday will also have variations on Handel’s oratorio Judas Maccabäus. See the complete program at

Tickets are $25 for one concert, or $40 for both concerts (when purchased at the same time). Purchase tickets at Farley’s House of Pianos, and Orange Tree Imports on Monroe Street, or by calling 271-2626 to reserve tickets by credit or debit card. A reception will follow the concert.

Parry Karp had early training in Austria and studied under several influential cellists. He is a well-known artist-in-residence and professor of cello at UW-Madison. He is also the director of the string chamber music program and has been a member of the Pro Arte Quartet for over 30 years. Karp has a strong interest in forgotten works for cello, and has even transcribed masterpieces from other instruments to cello.

Eli Kalman is a professor of piano at UW-Oshkosh who has also taught music in Romania and Israel. He earned Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from UW-Madison, and is a frequent collaborator with Parry Karp. As both a soloist and as a chamber musician, he has performed in Europe, Japan, the United States, and Canada. He recently performed with the Krieger String Series at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and his work is often heard on Wisconsin Public Radio.
