The Bricks Theatre continues to bring their irreverent and thought-provoking style of theatre to Madison audiences this spring with their latest offering, the world premiere of Oatesland, by local playwright and theatre professional, Sam D. White. This thrilling two-act play will feature the talents of four of Madison's strongest veteran stage performers: Jessica Jane Witham, Jake Penner, John Jajewski, and Jordan Peterson. David Pausch, co-founder and producer of The Bricks, will direct the project.

The play is set in the brutal environment of a rundown, claustrophobic Antarctic military station, where three U.S. soldiers must battle the extreme elements and close quarters in an endeavor to cohabitate and complete their vague mission. As tensions mount and weather conditions worsen, a mysterious figure arrives out of the cold that will change their lives forever. Oatesland masterfully blends visceral psychological drama with the fascinating history of Antarctic exploration in an experience that is sure to make for a one of a kind theatrical experience that has become synonymous with Bricks Theatre productions.

A note from the playwright, Sam White

"This play is the product four separate workshop and development processes. Written over many years within the protected confines of Madison's Playwright Ink, in 2003 it was selected for MATC's NewWorks Play Development Program where it received a week's rehearsal and a staged reading. After a rather long dormant period, it was a winner of the 2011 Wisconsin Wrights New Play Program where it received a workshop and reading at the UW Madison. Later Forward Theater picked it up as a part of their 2011-12 seasons' New Play Development series, where it had another workshop process and staged reading at the Overture Center. Then The Bricks Theatre picked up the project, held several rehearsals, and the put up two staged readings of the play.

This is truly a "developed" work. The voices of many local theater artists are in its pages. More importantly, though, its development was significantly impacted by the multitude of thoughts and ideas received at talkbacks with Madison extremely keen and uncompromising theater audiences."

Oatesland will play for two weekends, April 17-26, at the Bartell Theatre, 113 E. Mifflin St., Madison, WI. Tickets may be purchased at www.bartelltheatre.org or at the box office, depending upon availability. One may also reserve seats by calling the Bartell Theatre box office directly at (608) 661-9696.

About the Bricks Theatre

Theatre professionals and expats of the Madison Repertory Theatre, George Gonzalez, David Pausch, and Ric Lantz conceived the Bricks Theatre in 2009 with the expectation of bringing a new level of professional, challenging theatre to Madison audiences. Since then, the Bricks found success producing a wide variety of full-length plays in assorted found spaces, in addition to evenings of story-share monologues with their That's What She Said and Nuts in the Ballroom series.
